Day 38

Day 38
4pm 10 miles long run.
I know how you all felt this morning. Grumpy and sleepy. I am a morning person, no matter how late I go to bed, or how much I drink, I wake up early. Not this morning obviously. Daylight saving hit me and it was 10am when I woke up. It’s really late for my standards.
Lots of people don’t really enjoy the daylight saving so here is a bit of history of the whole thing.

According to wikipedia, daylight saving was first proposed by the New Zealand entomologist George Vernon Hudson, whose shift-work job gave him leisure time to collect insects, and led him to value after-hours daylight. In 1895 he presented a paper to the Wellington Philosophical Society proposing a two-hour daylight-saving shift.
People who are not opposed to the idea generally argue that it saves energy, promotes outdoor leisure activity in the evening (patio time!), and is therefore good for physical and psychological health, reduces traffic accidents, reduces crime, or is good for business.

The Department of Energy in 2008 conlcuded that U.S. electricity use decreased by 0.5 percent per day, which added up to 1.3 billion kilowatt-hours, enough to power about 122,000 average U.S. homes for a year.On the other hand, opponents argue that actual energy savings are inconclusive, that it actually can disrupt morning activities, and that the act of changing clocks twice a year is economically and socially disruptive and cancels out any benefit.
What’s your take on it? I actually look forward to having some more daylight during the day.
