117 Days to go

Monday, is off day. Not feeling a bit sore from this weekends runs. Surprising to be honest. My calves were hurting really bad yesterday. Another week of training starts. I will enjoy my day off dearly.
Oh before I forget, Mary Ellen, if you are reading this, I donated your blankets to BCSPCA. They were really grateful for them. Thank you!

A little bit of history to start the day. Today is an important for us Turks and it’s an important day for all the children around the world. April 23rd is the International Children Day. The founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, dedicated April 23 to the children of the country to emphasize that they are the future of the new nation. It was on April 23, 1920, during the War of Independence, that the Grand National Assembly met in Ankara and laid down the foundations of a new, independent, secular, and modern republic from the ashes of the Ottoman Empire.

Every year, the children in Turkey celebrate this “Sovereignty and Children’s Day” as a national holiday. Schools participate in week-long ceremonies marked by performances in all fields in large stadiums watched by the entire nation. I remember participating in all kinds of ceremonies. They were so exciting.

Gandhi said: “If we are to teach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children.” So let’s celebrate today, let’s remember being a kid again.
Peace at home, peace in the world.
Lots of love to you all. xo
